USMC PFT Standards by Age and Gender Full Scoring Chart

If you are looking at a USMC PFT chart and feel confused, you are not alone. The required reps and times can change based on your age and the scoring category that applies to you.
This guide explains how the standards work, how age brackets affect your score, and how to read the current PFT tables correctly. You can then use your numbers in our calculator to see your total score.
Last updated September 2026 — based on current Marine Corps PFT guidance and MCO 6100.13A W/ADMIN CH-5.
Why Do USMC PFT Standards Change by Age?

The Marine Corps uses age-based scoring standards for Marines who are scored under the regular sex- and age-normed system.
The reason is simple: physical performance can change as Marines get older. Because of this, the scoring tables use different age brackets instead of one standard for everyone.
The age brackets include:
- 17–20
- 21–25
- 26–30
- 31–35
- 36–40
- 41–45
- 46–50
- 51+
Your age bracket is important because the number of repetitions or the time needed for a certain score can change from one bracket to another.
However, there is an important 2026 exception. Marines with a combat-arms Primary Military Occupational Specialty (PMOS) are now scored using the male, age-normed standard and must achieve at least 210 total points. Non-combat-arms Marines continue to use the existing sex- and age-normed standards.
USMC PFT Events
The Marine Corps PFT consists of three events.
Strength Event: Pull-Ups or Push-Ups

Marines choose between dead-hang pull-ups and push-ups.
The scoring standard depends on the event you choose. Pull-ups and push-ups do not use the same scoring scale, so you should always check the correct column for your event.
Core Event: Plank
The plank is the current core event for the PFT.

Crunches are no longer an authorized PFT core event. The Marine Corps made the plank mandatory beginning January 1, 2023. The minimum plank time is 1:10 and the maximum-score time is 3:45.
Importantly, the Marine Corps states that plank times and scores follow a single standard, rather than separate age- and gender-based plank standards.
Cardio Event: 3-Mile Run
The standard PFT cardio event is the 3-mile run.

Marines age 46 and older may use a 5,000-meter row instead of the 3-mile run. Marines age 45 and younger may also have the 5,000-meter rowing option when an injury or postpartum condition qualifies and the appropriate authorization is provided.
The Marine Corps also provides separate guidance for running at altitude.

Note: The numerical pull-up, push-up, and run/row values should be copied directly from the current official Marine Corps scoring table used by your unit. Do not rely on an old PFT chart from a previous year.
How to Read the PFT Table
The first thing to check is your age bracket.

Do not simply search for your exact age and assume that number applies to you. Find the age group that contains your age, then use the appropriate scoring category.
Next, find your event.
For the strength event, make sure you are looking at the pull-up or push-up column that matches the event you performed.
For the core event, remember that the current PFT uses the plank. The Marine Corps states that the plank follows one standard.
For the cardio event, check whether you are using the 3-mile run or an authorized 5,000-meter row.
What Do the Minimum and Maximum Scores Mean?
Each PFT event contributes points toward your total score.
Your event performance is converted into points using the applicable scoring table. Your three event scores are then combined to produce your total PFT score.
The Marine Corps scoring system also uses minimum event requirements. A strong performance in one event does not automatically make up for failing the required minimum in another event.
That is why you should look at both your total score and your individual event scores.
The Plank Uses One Standard
The plank is one area where older PFT charts can cause confusion.
The Marine Corps made the plank mandatory beginning January 1, 2023, replacing crunches as the authorized core event. The current plank standard uses 1:10 as the minimum-score time and 3:45 as the maximum-score time. The Marine Corps specifically states that plank times and scores follow a single standard.
So, unlike pull-ups, push-ups, and the run, you should not look for separate male and female plank scoring tables.
2026 PFT Standards for Combat-Arms Marines
There is an important change for 2026.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Marines with a combat-arms PMOS use a sex-neutral PFT scoring standard. Their scores are assessed using the male, age-normed scoring standard in MCO 6100.13A.
Combat-arms Marines must also achieve a minimum total PFT score of 210 points.
The Marine Corps identifies specific combat-arms PMOSs that fall under this requirement. If you are in one of those MOSs, do not use the regular female scoring table to estimate your qualifying score. Check the standard that applies to your PMOS.
For non-combat-arms Marines, the existing sex- and age-normed scoring system continues to apply.
How Age Brackets Affect Your Score
Age can affect the number of repetitions or performance time needed for a particular score.
For example, a younger Marine and an older Marine may perform differently but receive similar points because they are being evaluated against different age-normed standards.
This is why using the correct age bracket matters when calculating your score.
If you recently moved into a new age group, check the current table again. Do not automatically use the same standards you memorized several years ago.
What Happens When You Move Into a New Age Bracket?
Age-bracket changes can affect the scoring requirements for your events.
The important thing is to use the age and scoring category that officially applies to your PFT.
If your birthday is close to your unit’s testing period, do not guess which bracket will be used. Confirm the applicable scoring rule with your unit’s PFT/CFT coordinator.
This is especially important when you are close to an age cutoff and your score depends on a small difference in repetitions or time.
PFT Testing Period
The Marine Corps PFT is an annual requirement and is conducted during the January 1 through June 30 period. The current Marine Corps order describes the PFT as a scored annual requirement.
The exact administration of your test is handled by your command.
Always follow the current instructions provided by your unit rather than relying on an old schedule or saved PFT document.
Why Old PFT Charts Can Be Wrong
If you find a PFT chart online, check its date before using it.
The Marine Corps has changed the PFT over time. One major change was the move from crunches to the mandatory plank beginning January 1, 2023.
The Marine Corps also introduced the 2026 combat-arms scoring change.
Because of these changes, an older chart may not match the standard that applies to you today.
For the most reliable information, use the current Marine Corps order and Human Performance Branch standards rather than an undated chart from another website. The Marine Corps currently lists MCO 6100.13A W/ADMIN CH-5 as the governing order for PFT/CFT standards.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age groups are used for the USMC PFT?
The standard age brackets are 17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50, and 51+.
Do USMC PFT standards change with age?
Yes. The regular PFT scoring system uses age-normed standards, so the requirements can change between age brackets.
Do male and female Marines have the same PFT standards?
For Marines using the regular sex- and age-normed scoring system, the applicable scoring standards differ by sex and age.
There is an important 2026 exception for Marines with combat-arms PMOSs. Those Marines use the male, age-normed scoring standard.
Is the plank standard different for men and women?
No. The Marine Corps states that the plank uses a single standard. The current minimum-score time is 1:10 and the maximum-score time is 3:45.
Are crunches still part of the USMC PFT?
No. The plank became mandatory on January 1, 2023, and crunches are no longer authorized as the PFT core event.
Can Marines over 45 use the 5K row?
Marines age 46 and older may use the 5,000-meter row as an alternative to the 3-mile run. Marines age 45 and younger may also have the rowing option when an injury or postpartum condition qualifies and the required authorization is provided.
What is the minimum PFT score for combat-arms Marines in 2026?
Combat-arms Marines must achieve at least 210 total points under the 2026 sex-neutral standard. Their scores use the male, age-normed scoring standard.
Do non-combat-arms Marines use the same 2026 standard?
No. Non-combat-arms Marines continue to use the existing sex- and age-normed PFT standards.
What should I do if I am close to an age cutoff?
Check which age bracket officially applies to your PFT and confirm with your unit if you are unsure.
A small difference in age can place you in a different scoring row, so guessing can lead to an incorrect score.
